Student - Youth Event Leader

Since 1949, TVCC has been working with children and youth to help them reach their full potential. Today, a wide range of services and supports are provided for young people with physical disabilities, communication disorders, developmental delays and autism spectrum disorders to support them in attaining the best available quality of life and health. In partnership with local and regional agencies, TVCC annually serves more than 11,000 children, youth and their families from birth to age 19 across Southwestern Ontario in over 700 locations.
We are currently recruiting for a temporary, full time (37.5 hours per week ) Student - Youth Event Leader in the Early Childhood, School Age and Adolescent Program. The Student - Youth Event Leader will work with the TVCC Youth and Recreation Therapy teams providing services to clients with disabilities (i.e., autism spectrum disorder, physical disabilities, communication disorders and/or developmental disabilities). This fixed term, summer position will begin in June 2026 and end in August 2026. The designated office will be the London office, located at 779 Base Line Road East.
The successful candidate will report to the Manager, Family and Community Services (FACS) and will work collaboratively with the Horizons and Recreation Therapy Teams to support client engagement in centre and community-based activities. Evening and some weekend work will be required.
This position exists as a result of funding received through Employment and Social Development Canada’s Canada Summer Jobs program. This program gives priority to organizations which provide opportunities to youth with disabilities and requires that applicants must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment. We are interested in hearing from candidates with disabilities who have the ability to direct their own accommodation needs within a workplace setting.
Responsibilities:
- Support the coordination and provision of both virtual and in-person summer activities and education for clients.
- Facilitate participation of TVCC clients in community activities to build life skills.
- Assist with the development of best practices and evidence informed services (e.g., literature review) and resources for clients and families.
- Adhere to the deliverables, processes, and guidelines of services for clients.
- Work with teams to complete all applicable event planning documents and forms.
- Assist with and provide input for evaluation methods for youth-oriented activities.
- Provide input on and participate in related youth activities (e.g., Services for Youth, Outcome Measures for Youth, Trailblazers Youth Advisory Council).
- Provide perspective to TVCC on youth engagement.
- Complete administrative tasks such as AlayaCare Planning Calendar, year-end event reports or as requested by the FACS manager.
Qualifications:
- Current enrolment in a related University or College program;
- Preference will be given to candidates with lived experience with a disability;
- Experience with group facilitation and event planning;
- Understanding of risk management when working with clients;
- Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively within an integrated team;
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral, with or without assistive devices or assistive technology, including the ability to communicate effectively in groups and individually;
- Demonstrated initiative and the ability to work with minimal supervision;
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines;
- Creative problem solving skills;
- Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft 365, as well as familiarity with social networking tools and video conferencing software (e.g., Teams,);
- Ability to travel within London and Southwestern Ontario would be considered an asset;
- Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis.
Salary Range: $17.60 - $18.86
