Algonquin Bridge designs and supplies a wide range of steel bridge products and crossing solutions across Canada and beyond. Our bridges can be divided into two categories: Modular Panel Bridges and Custom Prefabrication Bridges.

What are we looking for?
We are seeking a Welder to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis in our facility in Thorndale, Ontario. There are requirements on two shifts. Shift are Monday- Thursday, day shift 7:00am-5:30pm and afternoons 5:30pm-4am.
Welder plays a critical role in the construction and maintenance of steel bridges and a key contributor to our success. We are looking for Welders with varying experience to fill roles on both shifts. Shift and pay will be determined based on skills, ability and needs of the operation. The candidate must be flexible in shift requirements and be willing to work any overtime as needed.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
• Welders are responsible for welding and fabricating steel components to construct and repair bridges using various welding techniques (such as MIG, TIG, or stick welding) to join steel pieces together, ensuring the integrity and strength of the connections.

• Welders must be able to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to understand the design and structural requirements of the bridge components they are working on.

• Cut, shape, and prepare steel materials to meet the project's specifications. This involves using tools like torches, grinders, and saws to modify and prepare the steel as needed.
• Welders are responsible for inspecting their welds to ensure they meet quality standards and structural integrity. They may perform testing or visual inspections to verify the quality of the welds.
• Welders must follow safety protocols, wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and ensure that their work adheres to safety regulations to prevent accidents and injuries.
• Maintenance of welding equipment and tools to ensure they function properly and safely. Welders are often responsible for basic maintenance and reporting any equipment issues to their supervisors.
• Welders work closely with other construction professionals, such as engineers, crane operators, and project managers, to ensure that bridge construction or repair projects progress smoothly and meet all quality and safety standards.
• Responsible for maintaining high-quality standards in all welding and fitting activities. This includes ensuring that the finished steel components conform to the design and engineering specifications.
• Problem Solving, this role may need to troubleshoot and find solutions to structural or welding issues that arise during the construction or repair process.
• Accurate record-keeping is essential. Welders are required to maintain records of their work, including welding procedures, material usage, and quality control inspections.
• Welder are required to stay up-to-date with the latest welding techniques, technologies, and safety standards is crucial for welder fitters to excel in their role.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and standards for safety, on time delivery, cost control, and waste reduction.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements: 

REQUIREMENTS:
• O.S.S.G.D Graduation diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in fabrication and welding.
• CWB weld ticket in FCAW / MCAW flat and GMAW flat.
• Self-motivated, willing to take initiative and committed to continuous improvement.

• Able to use various tools such as, but not limited to: welding machines, grinders, drills, hand and track torches, plasma torches, fit up jigs, fixture tables, cranes, shears, punches, straightedges, combination squares, calipers, tape measures.
• Able to complete basic math problems (adding fractions, center-line distance calculation, etc.)
• Able to read, comprehend and interpret welding instructions and blueprints.
• Able to perform welding processes with consistency and at a steady pace with minimal rework or repairs.
• Willing to work overtime as required.
• Strong oral and written English language communication skills.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds with regularity; frequent bending, stooping and standing.
• Must be able to wear and perform work in personal protective equipment (e.g. welding hood) for extended periods.
