SUMMARY

The Warehouse Worker, working as part of an overall team, is responsible for receiving, storing and distributing various batteries, battery supplies and other products. The incumbent may also inspect batteries returned for credit.

The incumbent must respect, adhere to and support workplace Health & Safety rules and regulations.

Branch or Operations Manager / Supervisor

May also receive day-to-day guidance from Warehouse Lead Hand

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned)

1. Use appropriate equipment (i.e. forklift) to effectively pick and pack materials to fulfill customer orders by:

  • Transporting materials, product, and other items from receiving / stock areas to storage or to other designated warehouse areas
  • Sorting, marking and placing items on racks, shelves or bins according to predetermined sequence such as size, type, style or product code
  • Reading customer orders, pick lists and ship orders to assemble, label, wrap and place customer orders on pallets and / or delivery trucks
  • Checking shipment against paperwork for accuracy and number count prior to loading onto delivery trucks
  • Loading carriers with product to be shipped
  • Assisting Company Drivers, Sales Representatives and / or customers in loading / unloading trucks for both new product and scrap
  • Replenishing pick bins as required

2. Provide support to Industrial Field Services and Motive Power Sales by:

  • Installing watering systems (including blinky lights) and battery identification devices (BID)
  • Changing Industrial battery connectors (excluding euro connectors)
  • Managing the battery / cell recharging schedule
  • Preparing Industrial batteries by changing labels and painting the batteries
  • Performing light assembly of power packs
  • Performing industrial battery discharge tests

3. Contribute to a safe and efficient warehouse environment at all times by:

  • Actively participating in good housekeeping and a maintaining a well-organized workplace
  • Ensuring equipment is in good operating condition by performing daily pre-shift inspections of forklift and other equipment; completing inspection reports and submitting to designated Supervisor/ Manager
  • Complying with all Company and provincial legislation including Health & Safety regulations (safety equipment, forklift operation, TDG, WHMIS, Workers Compensation, Labour Board)
  • Identifying and reporting any potential health and safety issues / hazards; escalating as needed

4. On an ‘as-needed’ basis, contribute to overall effectiveness of the warehouse and, where applicable,branch operations by:

  • Actively participating in regular physical and cycle inventory counts; working with other branch staff to resolve any discrepancies
  • Performing battery inspections, repairs and alternations
  • Preparing batteries and paperwork for claims that result in A-1 returns
  • Processing branch and customer inventory re-charges
  • Processing branch customer claims and notifies customers of results
  • Processing branch scrap and core credits
  • Preparing and communicating scrap/ core and warranty reports for customers
  • Assisting with telemarketing customers for scrap & core collection
  • Providing back-up telephone support to Customer Service
  • Providing back-up for Delivery Drivers, as needed (i.e. vacation, sick time)

5. Contributes to a positive team environment by:

  • Assisting in orientation of new hires and training of less experienced
  • Willingly sharing work-related knowledge
  • Providing back-up support to other functions (e.g., warehouse, delivery, battery inspection and service) if/when required
  • Maintaining and wearing Company uniform in good order

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma
  • Additional sales, customer service and technical training asset
  • One to three years of related experience

Competencies (Technical, Functional and Behavioural)

  • Ability to learn, adapt to and effectively use inventory control tools (ROC)
  • Able to categorize product by size, type, style or product code
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Computer knowledge, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook as asset
  • Good communication skills (listening to follow instructions, conveying information to colleagues and to supervisor / manager)
  • Ability to read and use a map book (if/when providing backup on driving or sales & service co-ordinator roles)

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Valid Driver’s License required (clean driving record)

Previous training / certification in the following considered a definite asset but will otherwise be provided

  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG)
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
  • Forklift Certification

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Demands

  • Frequently lifts and/or moves boxes up to 40 pounds; regularly lift and/or move up to 60 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
  • Regularly required to stand
  • Frequently required to walk
  • Occasionally required to sit, climb or balance
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus

Work Environment

  • Warehouse facility
  • Moderate noise level
    • Exposure to weather elements if/when working at dock
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals, small risk of electrical shock
    • Regular exposure to high traffic (fork lift movement)
