Therapeutic Recreation Assistant

We are currently recruiting to fill a permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week) Therapeutic Recreation Assistant position in the Early Childhood, School Age and Adolescent Program (ECSAAP).
The designated office for this position will be London. Travel and service delivery within Middlesex, Elgin and Oxford counties is required. Regular evening and occasional weekend work will be required.
Responsibilities:
- Assist Recreation Therapists (TRs) with developing, planning, facilitating, documenting, and evaluating direct and indirect client related Therapeutic Recreation (TR) interventions
- Support and provide individual and group TR interventions to facilitate the achievement of targeted and generalized client and program goals
- Support and provide family engagement, education, and participation programs at TVCC, community, and virtual locations, including programs such as recreational swims, family events, information fairs and open houses
- Support and provide education and information at events for community members/partners
- Engage in ongoing consultation and collaboration with TRs regarding feedback and observations of interventions
- Under the direction of the TR, facilitate programming in the Adapted Fitness Centre (AFC), including supporting volunteers and clients to achieve goals
- Support orientation and supervision of volunteers and students
- Encourage and coach parents/caregivers regarding participation goals
- Coach community recreation providers in the implementation of inclusive participation
- Post-secondary diploma in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure
- Bronze Cross or National Lifeguard certification preferred; must be able to get and maintain Lay Rescuer Certification at a minimum
- Knowledge of child development and childhood disabilities
- Communication (written and verbal); organizational, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills
- Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office 365 and videoconferencing software (ex. Teams)
- Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a vehicle required
- Current CPR and First Aid certification
