Description: 

Since 1949, TVCC has been working with children and youth to help them reach their full potential. Today, a wide range of services and supports are provided for young people with physical disabilities, communication disorders, developmental delays and autism spectrum disorders to support them in attaining the best available quality of life and health. In partnership with local and regional agencies, TVCC annually serves more than 11,000 children, youth and their families from birth to age 19 across Southwestern Ontario in over 700 locations.

 

We are recruiting for 5 (five) full-time (37.5 hours per week), temporary Student - Group Assistants in Autism & Behavioural Services. The designated office for these positions is London (3), Stratford (1) and Owen Sound (1). These positions are expected to begin in May 2026 and end August 2026.

TVCC has applied for funding for these positions through Employment and Social Development Canada’s Canada Summer Jobs program.  This program gives priority to organizations which provide job opportunities to youth with disabilities. We are interested in hearing from candidates with disabilities who have the ability to direct their own accommodation needs within a workplace setting.

Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Manager, Autism & Behavioural Services, Student - Group Assistants will provide the following support to the Behaviour Clinician and Instructor Therapist prior to, during and after Education Workshops, Treatment Groups, and Classroom sessions:

  • Prepare materials for the activities; including photocopying, laminating, collecting and arranging materials, setting up the room including equipment and technology supports
  • Interact with families and children/youth during the activities by
    • giving direction and prompting as required,
    • providing reinforcement as needed,
    • recording data as instructed,
    • assisting parents with instructions, and
    • other assigned tasks as they arise
  • Direct families to appropriate staff or resources after the activities have ended, share observations of client progress with the Behaviour Clinician or Instructor Therapist
  • Follow through on assigned tasks prior to the next group/workshop; return the classroom to a neat and orderly state, assist with the distribution and collection of evaluation tools, clean and disinfect all toys, materials and equipment as required.
Requirements: 

Qualifications:

  • Working toward Post-secondary diploma or degree in a related field (e.g. ABSC, CYW, ECE, DSW)
  • Knowledge of autism spectrum disorders is preferred
  • Experience working with children and youth with Autism is an asset
  • Excellent communication skills

Salary Range: $17.60 - $18.86
