Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario is an affiliate of Habitat Canada, a national network of non-profit housing organizations with a global vision of a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. We are a diverse and innovative charity that builds affordable housing and operates a network of social enterprise home improvement stores called ReStore. Our ReStore locations sell new and gently used donated home furnishings, appliances, renovation materials and more. Proceeds from sales help cover the cost to build affordable housing in our region.
Students who join us for their placement will have options to choose a pathway based on their interests and availability. Each pathway has a series of module training sessions and an instructor to assist with the on-the-job training at their local Habitat ReStore. Skilled learning could involve the following areas of interest:
- Retail operations such as merchandising, sales, and pricing
- Cashier – Point of Sale System
- Customer Service
- Receiving Donations
- Marketing and Promotions
- Warehouse and Receiving
- Workplace Safety and More
Our goal is to ensure each co-op placement leaves with a well-rounded understanding of all aspects of the store and a better understanding of the organization. Once a student applies, we will contact them to request an interview. When the placement is confirmed, we will complete the registration process, and they will be supported by our Project Coordinator throughout their time at Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario
This FREE Training Program is open to all individuals who are:
- Between the ages of 16 and 30
- Looking to complete high school or work placement co-op credits
- Interested working in retail, the ‘green economy,’ or social enterprises or charitable organizations
Each participant who completes the program will receive a certificate of completion & letter of acknowledgement.
