Canada Summer Jobs is helping to fund this position to help employers create summer job opportunities for youth between 15 and 30 years old. This Summer position will assist with meal planning and preparation for  activities for the residents at JGH.

Canada Summer Jobs Program Eligibility

• Be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment; Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*; and Be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations. *International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents


• Menu planning and food preparation

• Food budgeting and grocery shopping

• Promoting nutrition and healthy eating practices with residents

• Assessing preferences and special diets of new residents

• Using various types of kitchen equipment

• Practicing safe food handling and kitchen sanitation

• Working collaboratively with volunteers and residents

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program, such as Culinary Management, Food and Nutrition Management, Registered Dietician or related area of study is an asset
  • Previous experience in the food industry is an asset
  • Current certification in Safe Food Handling, First Aid/CPR, WHMIS and CPI is an asset
  • Ability to operate office equipment, such as a computer and photocopier
  • Problem solving and decision-making skills
  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Positions Screening Report
  • An appreciation for and commitment to working in social services and an alignment with the values and principals of Regional HIV/AIDS Connection
