Description: 

Reporting to the Production Manager, the Sanitation Technician will be responsible for ensuring excellent plant sanitation at Aylmer, Ontario facility. The Sanitation Technician is primarily responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the harvesting and packaging rooms, and equipment, including the overhead structures, freezer, and shipping and receiving dock. Process equipment within cleaning deadlines; assigning Master Sanitation Schedule tasks given by the Production Manager and enforcing any GMP's or Food Safety concerns. This position requires a self-directed, team-oriented individual who will perform the tasks to maintain the degree of cleanliness and sanitary conditions within the plant areas and equipment and be willing to cross train other employees in proper sanitation procedures as required.

Description:

  • Prepare production equipment for cleaning by following proper procedures;
  • Responsible for disassembling, cleaning and sanitizing of all shrimp-processing equipment, including storage areas, handling all line clean ups and the documentation for clean ups, enforcing all safety rules and regulations, monitoring the inventory of cleaning equipment and cleaning supplies
  • Maintain plant cleanliness in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices and Food Safety standards
  • Enforce all elements of food safety within the plant
  • Manage the Master Sanitation Schedule and provide recommendations on improving the Company current sanitation process and procedures
  • Operate cleaning equipment including but not limited to: floor scrubber, portable tank foamer, vacuum system and CIP systems
  • Rinse, foam, scrub and sanitize production equipment ensuring that all areas meet Quality Control and CFIA standards
  • Work cooperatively with the Maintenance Department to ensure internal parts of equipment are cleaned and sanitized
  • Responsible to ensure that all processing machinery is cleaned to specification of all food safety regulations and guidelines to minimize potential food safety risks
  • Maintain accurate sanitation documentation and ensure the proper completion of Master Sanitation Schedule as required
  • Follow all company policies, GMPs, Food Safety, OHSA Regulations, SOPs and SSOPs
  • Maintain and complete sanitation paperwork and/or enter into a computer database system
  • Work with chemicals and follow chemical usage labels for application and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Conduct self-inspections after cleaning to ensure cleanliness;
  • Train employees as required
Requirements: 
  • Completion of High School Diploma or equivalent required;
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar role in a food manufacturing environment;
  • Mechanical aptitude is an asset;
  • Excellent knowledge of manufacturing practices;
  • Have basic knowledge of Hazardous Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP’s);
  • Must be able to identify Critical Control Points (CCPs) in area of responsibility and maintain all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs);
  • Ability to multi-task, detail oriented, analytical, organized;
  • Basic mathematical and computer skills.

  • Aerial Lifts training
  • Fork lift license

 

Working Conditions:

  • Hair nets, beard snoods, gloves, safety shoes/boots are required in the plant;
  • Ability to be in contact and working closely with sanitation/cleaning chemicals;
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds;
  • Ability to work in moderate to cold conditions
